About X Helping Hands Association

X Helping Hands Association is a federally incorporated nonprofit organization rooted in Antigonish, Nova Scotia since 2022, and now active across the province. We support newcomers, racialized individuals, and diverse community members through storytelling, free skill-sharing, community engagement, and leadership opportunities.

Our mission is to build more welcoming, inclusive, and connected communities by creating spaces where people can learn from one another and make meaningful connections. About the Opportunities

We're looking for 2 enthusiastic remote volunteers to join our Community Programs Team and support the planning, coordination, and growth of X Helping Hands' programs and partnerships.

If you're passionate about community engagement, nonprofit work, building meaningful partnerships, and creating inclusive opportunities for newcomers and diverse communities, we'd love to hear from you.

You'll work directly under the guidance of the Director of Programs & Outreach , collaborating on meaningful projects while receiving mentorship from someone with extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, partnership development, and program coordination.

No prior nonprofit or event planning experience is required—we'll provide guidance, mentorship, and ongoing support throughout your volunteer journey.

These opportunities are especially well suited for:

  • Students pursuing education, business, communications, public administration, event management, social work, community development, or related fields.
  • Emerging leaders looking to develop skills in community engagement, partnership development, nonprofit operations, and event coordination.
  • Individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector while making a meaningful impact in their community.
  • Anyone who is organized, proactive, enjoys collaborating with others, and is passionate about building inclusive communities.
Current Openings 1. Community Partnerships & Outreach Volunteer

Approx. 3–5 hours per week

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching and identifying potential community partners, nonprofits, schools, and organizations.
  • Reaching out to organizations via email and virtual meetings to introduce X Helping Hands and explore collaboration opportunities.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with community partners.
  • Identifying memberships, networks, and collaborative initiatives that align with X Helping Hands' mission.
  • Supporting the Director of Programs with partnership development and community engagement initiatives.
Ideal for someone who:
  • Enjoys networking and building relationships.
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is comfortable with professional emails and virtual meetings.
  • Is interested in community development and nonprofit partnerships.
2. Event Planning & Program Coordination Volunteer Approx. 3–5 hours per week

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the planning and coordination of virtual and in-person community events.
  • Researching and booking venues, speakers, facilitators, and event resources.
  • Assisting with event timelines, registrations, and logistics.
  • Communicating with presenters, volunteers, and community partners before events.
  • Working closely with the Director of Programs to ensure events are well organized and successfully delivered.
Ideal for someone who:
  • Enjoys organizing projects and managing details.
  • Has strong communication and time management skills.
  • Likes planning community initiatives and events.
  • Is interested in nonprofit program coordination and event management.
