WHO WE NEED

We are seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused Retail Store Sales Representatives to join ROM's Retail team. As one of the first points of contact for many visitors, you will help create an exceptional museum experience by delivering outstanding customer service, processing retail transactions, maintaining attractive merchandise displays, and sharing your knowledge of ROM exhibitions and products.

Whether assisting a member with a purchase, helping visitors find their way through the museum, or recommending the perfect gift, you'll play an important role in representing the ROM brand and contributing to a welcoming, engaging shopping experience.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Deliver exceptional customer service that creates memorable shopping and museum experiences for every visitor.
  • Accurately process retail sales using Shopify Point of Sale (POS).
  • Promote ROM merchandise, memberships, exhibitions, and special promotions through genuine customer engagement.
  • Maintain visually appealing merchandise displays and ensure the store remains clean, organized, and well-stocked.
  • Assist with visitor wayfinding by providing information about galleries, exhibitions, and museum amenities.
  • Help manage customer flow during peak periods while maintaining a positive, welcoming environment.
  • Collaborate with the Retail team to achieve sales, service, and operational goals.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • Up to one year of experience in retail, hospitality, tourism, customer service, or a related public-facing environment.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with large numbers of visitors.
  • Experience operating a POS system (Shopify experience is considered an asset).
  • Ability to handle customer concerns professionally and courteously.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing transactions.
  • Flexibility to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak museum periods.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages, particularly French, are considered an asset.

SALARY & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • EXPECTED COMPENSATION: $22.53 - $25.73
    SCHEDULE: Up to 24 hours weekly
  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 420 hours or six (6) months

  1. Initial conversation: A brief Initial Conversation to discuss your interest in the role and ROM and how you can make an impact.
  2. Invitation-Only Hiring Event: Candidates selected from the Initial Conversation will be invited to attend an exclusive Hiring Event at Royal Ontario Museum in August. During this event, you'll have the opportunity to:
    • Meet members of the Retail team.
    • Learn more about working at ROM Retail and what to expect in the role.
    • Participate in a short behavioural interview and interactive customer service activities designed to showcase your communication and customer service skills.
    • Tour the Retail environment and ask questions about the position.
    • Complete the interview process in a single visit.
    • Meet other candidates interested in joining the ROM Retail team.
The above-listed process may change or vary based on the nature and scope of the position.
