English and Music Teacher
The German International School Toronto (GIST) is an independent IB world school in the west of Toronto. GIST belongs to the association of more than 135 German schools abroad and is supported by the Federal Republic of Germany. We are looking for bright, creative, and solution-oriented teachers to join our team.
We are seeking a full-time OCT Primary/Junior English and Music teacher to begin August 24, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Teach the Ontario English language curriculum, Gr. 1–6: phonics, reading, spelling, general language arts, and media studies
- Teach the Ontario music curriculum, Gr. 1–8 and Kindergarten: singing, rhythm and movement, beginner instrumental work, and music appreciation
- Plan and lead age-appropriate musical activities and performances (e.g., assemblies, seasonal concerts)
- Use a variety of relevant resources and technology to supplement lesson plans in a meaningful way
- Maintain a positive learning environment using age-appropriate and effective classroom management techniques
- Keep up to date on innovative teaching methods and developments in the education field through seminars, additional qualifications, etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education with primary/junior qualifications
- Ontario Teaching Certification (OCT) in good standing preferred, or other comparable teacher’s license
- Background, qualifications, or demonstrated experience in music education is strongly preferred
- 1–2 years of classroom teaching experience or related experience; experience in a private school is an asset

- OCT or equivalent certificate
- Vulnerable Sector Check (Required)
- First Aid Training (Required, may be completed during the school year)
Hours
- Full-time, 5 days a week
- 7:30 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.
- Staff meetings on Thursdays, 1:45–4:15 p.m.
